ONYX CLUB BOYS is an acoustic string band (violin, guitar, upright bass, and drums) rooted in Django Reinhardt’s Gypsy Jazz sounds of 1930's Paris, and Stuff Smith's New York City Swing. However, being from 21st Century North Carolina, their diverse influences take the music beyond borders. It's a trip around the world, which will make you swoon, tap your feet, and realize how universally similar music really is.

"The cool dexterity of their playing binds together the broad catalog"
- Grayson Currin, music editor Indy Week, NC

It's been too long...

Dear Friends of Onyx Club Boys,

It's been a tumultuous year for all, as well as for music.  Most heartbreaking of all was having to cancel our 4th annual Carrboro Django Reinhardt Festival, though we hope to be back in January of 2022.

In the meantime, we have a SHOW to announce!  April 17, 2021 near Saxapahaw, NC at a beautiful outdoor venue called Raven Haven.  We'll be joined by the fabulous Michael Joseph Harris (Ultrafaux/Baltimore).  We can't wait to play for you!

More summer shows to be announced, and we hope to get in the studio again sooner than later!

Bisous,

Lots of new shows!

Dear Onyx Fam!

We are excited to announce a bunch of upcoming shows in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Greensboro, and more!  We're also starting a summer residency at Carrboro's Oak Leaf Restaurant starting June 4.  Check out all the details under the SHOWS tab of our website, and make your calendars!

The Gyspy Jazz Jam at The Station in Carrboro has been a big success.  Folks bring an acoustic instrument and a folding chair, and play Django Music in a fun and supportive environment.  Come play or just listen every other Sunday from 3-5pm, with the next one being June 2nd.

Plans for the Carrboro Django Reinhardt Festival are coming together nicely.  We're expanding the festival to 3 days....January 17, 18, and 19, 2020 and Cat's Cradle Back Room and The Station.  We'll kick things off with a jam on opening night, followed by two days of workshops and featured concerts.  Workshops will be expanded to include more instruments (guitar, violin, mandolin, rhythm/drums), topics, and teachers.  The featured concerts shouldn't be missed!

Thanks for your support!

Onyx Club Boys
